Pay the IRS online with EFW
A tax extension gives you more time–usually up to six months–to file your tax return. It does not give you more time to pay taxes due.
If you do owe the IRS money, there are a number of ways to pay them. You can send a check or money order through the mail, or, to get things done in one step, you can pay by electronic funds withdrawal. EFW enables you to submit your payment at the same time you e-file your tax return. Express Extension gives you the forms you need to set up an EFW payment. Your payment is safe and secure and the information goes straight to the IRS. All you have to do is enter your banking information and the amount that needs to be transferred. You can even schedule the payment for later this week. Here’s what the IRS has to say:
Payments can be made online, by phone using a credit or debit card or through the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System. Taxpayers who e-file their returns may use the electronic funds withdrawal option for submitting an electronic payment. It’s possible, for example, to e-file in February or March but schedule the payment for withdrawal as late as April 15.
Information on these options can be found on the Electronic Payment Options Home Page of IRS.gov.
