2014 Tax Season Start Delay

On October 22, 2013 the IRS announced that the start of the 2014 filing season would be delayed approximately 1-2 weeks due to the 16-day federal government shutdown.  The original start for the 2014 filing season was January 21, 2014.  The IRS is working to shorten the expected delay and will announce the final start date in December.

April 15th tax deadline will remain in place regardless of the start date for the filing season.  Taxpayers who wish to request an automatic 6-month extension to file their tax return can do so by filing Form 4868.
